Building a shared foundation across platforms
FreeCast
Design systems · Product strategy · Cross-platform UX
A redesign across web, TV web, and mobile needed a shared foundation. As Principal Product Designer, I built FreeCast’s design system from scratch, introduced design thinking company-wide, and rebuilt the experiences across these surfaces.
My mandate connected three levels of the work: establishing the design system, shaping the product experiences, and changing how the company approached user problems.
The system and the redesign were part of the same effort: creating a coherent product identity while respecting each platform’s context of use.
My Role
Principal Product Designer · April 2026–Present
Platforms: Web · TV web · Mobile apps
The Problem
Rebuilding experiences across several platforms requires decisions that can be shared, and decisions that need to adapt. A consistent visual foundation needs to support clear interactions in each context.
I took ownership of building that foundation and rebuilding the experiences around it, while introducing design thinking across the company.
Build the Design System from Zero
I created FreeCast’s design system as the foundation for the broader redesign. The library organizes reusable patterns around navigation, forms, media, layouts, and feedback.
Platform and interaction-state variants connect the shared design language to practical interface behavior. The examples below show that structure in the actual Figma library.
A shared foundation: the library organizes reusable patterns around navigation, forms, media, layouts, and feedback, with platform and state variants.
Introduce Design Thinking Company-wide
I introduced design thinking across the organization, expanding the conversation from individual screens to the problems those screens needed to solve. This placed user needs and the full experience at the center of the company’s approach to design.
That organizational work was central to my role: establishing how design could contribute to product decisions as well as producing the designs themselves.
Rebuild the Experience Across Platforms
I rebuilt FreeCast’s experiences across web, TV web, and mobile apps. The design challenge was to create a coherent product identity while respecting the differences between these environments.
The hero presents the redesigned home experience across TV, web, and mobile. The original Figma screens below show home discovery, channel browsing, and movie details alongside the interaction patterns that support them. Shared navigation adapts from a desktop sidebar to a compact mobile layout, while the TV experience includes explicit remote-control guidance.

The contribution
A design system built from scratch to support the broader product experience.
Design thinking introduced company-wide to establish a shared focus on user problems.
Experiences rebuilt across web, TV web, and mobile apps under a unified design direction.
Why this work matters
This work demonstrates the breadth of my principal-level practice: setting a foundation, influencing how a company approaches design, and remaining hands-on across the product experience. System ownership and organizational leadership support the same goal: making a complex, multi-platform product feel coherent.
